The annual Chickering Science Fair will take place on Saturday March 9, 2019 from 10am - 11:30am in the Chickering Cafeteria and Gym. The Science Fair is an optional, fun and educational event with the goal to inspire the minds of our students with science and engineering.  Visitors to the fair are welcomed from 10:30am - 11:30am and encouraged to participate in the Science Quest.  An interactive journey through the fair in search of answers and questions.

Students from any grade can enter a project into the fair. To enter, have your child choose a project from one of the categories below and submit a registration form (look for it in your child's backpack in the new year). Please review the rules and regulations before your child finalizes their project idea. Your child should complete his or her project anytime before the fair. Please be sure to have your child create a display board for the day of the fair (For more information about the display board, go to our FAQ section).

1.  Classification/Collection – i.e. a museum like display based on a collection; pine cones, bugs, seeds, shells, rocks, dolls, etc. Students should determine a way to classify their collection, researching for identification and scientific names when possible. Use a display board to elaborate on your collection.

2.  Hypothesis/Theory/Question – Ask a question.  Make a hypothesis. Experiment.  Show Results.  Anything from “what melts ice faster, sugar or salt?” to “which golf ball produces the best hits, pink or white?” Include a presentation board and as many artifacts from the experimentation phase as possible.

3.  Invention/Innovation – Create something or make something better. This can be for anything, it does not have to have a practical use, just creative and resourceful. Brainstorm. Design. Create. Use your display board to explain your idea and process.

During the fair a team of Science Experts will visit each project, listen to a brief explanation from the student and ask a few questions. Each entrant will receive and assigned station to display their project and a time window that the Science Experts will be at their station. During the remaining time students can walk around and explore the other projects.

We encourage the entire Chickering community to visit the fair on March 9th to view all of the projects and participate in the Science Quest!
